Fred Murhammer
Member of New School Unit
Dear colleagues -- you have two excellent candidates running for the position of Financial Secretary. Although I am not a
CPA or Financial Analyst, I do have experience in managing the financial books for two organizations. After college I kept
the books for a regional ballet company and school, and later I organized the financial records for a jewelry reseller. Both
organizations had revenues in excess of 3 million dollars. As your Financial Secretary I will work to ensure the financial
stability of our local. But I believe it is not enough to keep the books; a good Financial Secretary needs to be able to create
financial projections and budgets so that decisions can be made by our Executive Board with the approval of the Joint Council
on which endeavors our local can afford to undertake. Also, since the Financial Secretary sits on the Executive Board, it
is vital that he/she be aware of the pressing issues confronting our local. I believe one of the most important tasks faced
by our union is organizing our membership and handling their grievances. Finally, I'd like to thank President Joel Schlemowitz
and New School Unit Chair Marie Dormuth for their endorsements.
Trustees
Our Trustees conduct biannual audits of our Local's funds and property. There are three Trustees.

Martha Burgess
Member of New School Unit
"I enthusiastically endorse the candidacy of Martha Burgess for Trustee. She is a brilliant and dedicated teacher who
continues to work hard as an Actuaw Steward. She has used her creativity to make our union stronger by supporting her colleagues
and helping them to resolve their grievances." - Marie Dormuth, Actuaw Unit Chair
Also ENDORSED by Actuaw President Joel Schlemowitz and Vice-President Jan Clausen, Martha Burgess, ten-year annual New
School adjunct faculty and union steward, has taught digital media, video, and photography to undergraduate and graduate students.
As STEWARD, I have represented adjunct faculty in meetings with department chairs, school deans and the provost. I have
experienced firsthand what a great contract we have! My own grievance with the university is going into arbitration, merging
with a discrimination case that I personally filed with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). As steward, I have also
attended policy meetings protecting employees against insurance loss, articulating the multi-year application processes and
representing faculty interests in recent policy changes. These activities are serving to make a stronger union.
As TRUSTEE, I will use my experience to continue supporting Actuaw adjunct faculty, to promote activist activity and to
assist in building our next contract.
Kay Kenny
Member of NYU Unit
From its inception, I have actively promoted the ACT-UAW and worked towards its development and growth. I am seeking reelection
to the office of Trustee on the Executive committee. In this capacity, I will continue to oversee the financial records of
our union and volunteer my time and energy towards developing a stronger union: one that is prepared for the up-coming new
contract negotiations. As an NYU adjunct in the School of Continuing Professional Studies for over a decade, and a union steward,
I am well aware of the difficulties all of us face in our dedication to our students and our profession. I thereby hope to
continue to devote my time and energy as a Trustee and union member towards furthering our strength and position within the
academic community.
